What is a Static QR Code?

A static QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that stores data directly within the geometric pattern of dark and light squares. Because the payload is embedded directly into the matrix, the code functions independently of any external server or internet connection.

Static QR codes never expire and cannot be altered or hijacked after printing. They are ideal for business cards, print collateral, Wi-Fi stickers, product labels, and fixed website links.

Complete Client-Side Privacy

Unlike traditional QR code websites that send your data to remote tracking servers or require account sign-ups, HeyPDF processes everything entirely within your browser's JavaScript engine.

Your Wi-Fi passwords, contact addresses, phone numbers, and payment details remain on your device. We do not store, log, or transmit your QR code content.

Best Practices for Scanning Reliability

Maintain Quiet Zone

Always include at least 4 modules of empty border space around the matrix. This margin helps optical cameras distinguish the QR code from surrounding graphics or text.

High Color Contrast

Ensure a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 between modules and the background. Dark foregrounds on light backgrounds provide the fastest optical decode speeds across mobile sensors.

Print Sizing & Vectors

For printed materials, use our SVG export for crisp lines at any scale. As a general rule, the scan distance should be approximately 10 times the physical width of the printed QR code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about QR code generation, formats, and best practices.

Can I create a QR code without uploading data?

Yes. HeyPDF generates all QR codes entirely inside your web browser using client-side JavaScript. Your text, links, Wi-Fi passwords, contact cards, and payment details are processed locally and are never transmitted to our servers.

Which QR formats are supported?

You can generate static QR codes for Website URLs, Plain Text, Wi-Fi networks (WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP, Open), vCard 3.0 contact cards, Email mailto links, Phone call links, SMS messages, and UPI payment strings.

Can I download the QR code as SVG?

Yes. You can export your generated QR code as either a high-resolution PNG raster image or an infinite-resolution SVG vector file suitable for professional print designs, flyers, banners, and digital media.

Does the QR code expire?

No. These are static QR codes where the actual payload data is permanently encoded directly into the square matrix modules. As long as the underlying link, phone number, or network remains active, the QR code will scan indefinitely without an expiration date.

Can I create a Wi-Fi QR code?

Yes. Select the Wi-Fi tab, enter your network name (SSID), choose your encryption standard, and enter the password. Scanning the generated QR code on an iOS or Android smartphone prompts the user to join the network automatically.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static QR code encodes the final data directly into the matrix, requiring no server redirects or tracking. A dynamic QR code routes through an intermediary server that logs scans and redirects visitors. HeyPDF creates permanent static QR codes that work offline and preserve your privacy.

Why is my QR code difficult to scan?

Scanners require sufficient visual contrast and an adequate quiet zone. Ensure your foreground color is significantly darker than your background (contrast ratio of 4.5:1 or higher) and keep at least a 4-module quiet zone margin around the outer edges.
